Digital Age Learning
How does using this medium such as QR codes benefit your digital age learner?
I think using QR Codes is a really cool way to engage students in their learning and you can use them in a variety of ways. For this activity, I chose to use QR Codes as a fun way for student's to check their understanding of different types of conflict. Using QR Codes will encourage students to be active in their learning and utilizes students strengths in technology. QR Codes can be used in all content areas and can be used for comprehension, to provide examples, incentivize and praise, create learning stations, and even be used for polling (Miller, 2014).

I loved using Animoto for my presentation! It’s a really fun and simple way to create a more exciting verision of information than a traditional PowerPoint. I definitely want to continue using Animoto, I think it would be a great way to introduce new topics to students, and it’s nice because you can customize it yourself, versus using someone else’s videos. And it's free! In regards to digital citizenship, I think it's important that students understand how to use digital communicationt tools appropriately and effectively. Although digital resources are a great tool, the internet can be a scary place. Digital natives assume that everything online is fun and safe because they are acting behind their phones, tablets, and/or computers, however there are predators out there who pretend to be children and have similar interests in order to lure them in and earn their trust. It's important that students are "street smart" online, and treat st
"The Fallen Angel" Wordle
I really liked completing this assignment this week. I have seen these images around before and always thought that they were really cute, but I never knew how people made them. I had just assumed that people made them in Microsoft Word, but I would always think "wow, that must take a lot of work!" I was excited to learn that these images had a name and a website that created them for you. How exciting and easy!
I think these could be used in the classroom in a variety of ways. At the beginning of the school year, students create individual Wordles about themselves, as a way to introduce themselves to the class. I like the idea of using Wordles as a way to introduce a topic or story that would be read in class. Students could then generate predictions about what the topic or story might be about. They could also be used as a creative way to introduce vocabulary for a specific unit or before reading a new story. Wordle is super easy to use, and can be incorporated in all content areas! I will definitely use Wordles in the future! |

I really enjoyed getting to know more about SmartBoard! I am generally familiar with SmartBoard however, there is still a lot I have to learn about it. I clicked through the SmartBoard Tutorial and realized that SmartBoard has a lot more to offer than I had initially thought. I would like to take a training course to learn more about it so that I can get the most out of it for my students. For this activity, I made a mini-lesson on grammar focusing on nouns and verbs. This should be a review for students, however it's always a good idea to refresh their memories. Ideally, students would copy the first two pages into their writing journal and the rest of the pages were created for practice and review. Students are able to interact with the material by placing the given word(s) into the correct area (either the correct vortext or side on the T-chart). I think for a short, quick lesson, the SmartBoard comes in handy and makes it more fun for the students. What's cool is that I think the predesigned SmartBoard activities make it look like you put a lot of time and effort into creating the notes, when really it was just SmartBoard technology! Love it!
